The EnerGuide evaluation rating system is a comprehensive Canadian government initiative, managed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), that helps homeowners understand their Nanaimo home’s energy performance. How Does the EnerGuide Evaluation Process Work?
There are 6-steps to follow for completing the EnerGuide Evaluation process to improve the comfort and efficiency of your home. To the left is a simplified 6-step circle to understand the order and purpose of each step.
1. You initiate an evaluation by directly contacting Airtight Energy Advisors in Nanaimo, or indirectly by leaving your name with a Service Organization, which will assign a Program Qualified Energy Advisor (PQEA) to your home. Our professional are trained and licensed by NRCan to perform EnerGuide evaluations, and approved by the Home Performance Contractors Network in BC.
2. The PQEA visits your Vancouver Island home and conducts a thorough inspection, including:
a). Measuring and documenting the home’s size, layout, and characteristics
b). Checking insulation levels, windows, doors, and mechanical systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water heating)
c). Performing a Blower Door test to measure air leakage (draftiness)
The home’s collected data allows Hot2000 Energy Modeling and EnerGuide Reports to be created and emailed to you with a recommendations report.
3. Based on your input and Airtight’s recommendations you can select qualified trades from the Home Performance Search Tool Council BC search tool for your location.
4. Manage the installation of approved energy upgrades. After completion and commissioning of equipment – contact your Airtight Energy Advisor to book your Post evaluation home visit to confirm the jobs are done and the equipment is inspected.
5. Our Home Energy Advisor will document the upgrades and conduct the final Blower Door test. About 1-2 weeks later you will receive your final EnerGuide Evaluation rating reports and rating-label updated for the improvements so you can compare the before and after efficiency.
6. You will upload your EnerGuide reports and contractor invoices to the Greener Homes Portal so they can confirm and finalize your file. Their approval ends with delivery of the Loan proceeds and BC rebate checks.
